Supporting Your Journey to Wellness

Meet Kimberly Kuskovsky, LMFT

Relationship Counselor & EMDR Therapist in
New York City & NY, San Diego & CA, and NJ

When you're struggling with frequent arguments, poor communication, and emotional distance from your partner it becomes so hard to navigate it all.  Especially when you find yourself more easily triggered, anxious, and confused about how you really feel and what you need. It can be even more confusing and difficult, when confronting past trauma on top of everything you already have going on.

Together, we’ll map a clear path forward to heal from past traumas and build stronger, healthier relationships.  You can finally have a safe place to share your story and receive the guidance and support you need to move forward.  Put down the feelings of overwhelm, worry, and loneliness that you have been carrying around and pick up a life filled with calm, confidence, and connection.

I’m so glad you’re here.

Hi, I'm Kim

I specialize in working with women and long term dating couples who are ready to:

  • Understand and change stuck patterns within themselves and their relationships

  • Dive into how their past may be shaping their present

  • Create a clearer understanding of their wants, needs, and boundaries

  • Learn to communicate more effectively

  • Explore feelings, thoughts, and behaviors and put energy into making changes

What is it like working with me?

I create a non-judgmental space, understanding that you are trying your best and have good reasons why you feel, think, and behave the way you do even though it may not get you where you want to be.

  1. We will begin by untangling your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors with validation and understanding so you can finally make sense of yourself and your relationships.

  2. We will get curious about the past and how it connects to the present challenges you are experiencing to bring awareness when triggered and learn to respond differently.

  3. With gentle feedback and collaboration, we will figure out how to cope in a way that works better for you and your life now.

Am I the right therapist for you?

You want to talk about what’s going on within yourself and your relationship but it doesn’t always feel emotionally safe to do so with your partner, friends, or family.

Therapy with me is a safe place to talk through the good and the bad that is clouding your mind. Often times we don’t realize that things we don’t like about ourselves are often an important learned coping mechanism. I’m here to help you make sense of it and make the changes you want to better your life.

I believe in untangling and organizing thoughts and feelings and working to understand each challenge on its own and how it impacts the others so life begins to feel more manageable.

If you’re feeling a crushing pressure to “figure it out” quickly while also feeling really stuck, I’m here for you. Holding all of this inside is HEAVY and I’m here to hold it with you. Together we can really sort through the stuck place and build trust and confidence within that when you are ready, you WILL make the changes that are needed.

What do clients say?

Client's describe me as a therapist who helps you make sense of the challenges you are experiencing, get clearer on who you are and what you need, and find confidence and calm in your life.

My clients feel that I create a space that is non-judgmental, validating, collaborative, and honors vulnerability.  With support and gentle feedback, together we will deal with anything that comes your way.

I’m trained to support you through relationship challenges and past painful experiences.

As a relationship counselor:

I am trained systemically, meaning that I take into account the systems that you became you in, such as your family, community, and culture.  I’m also trained to understand relational patterns and how you may get stuck in a negative one, and how to create a more positive pattern.

As an emotionally focused therapist:

Your emotions (or difficulty with them) are welcome. I focus on exploring the deeper emotions that cause relationship conflict, anxiety, and overwhelm and help you learn to use them as a guide to help you get clear on what you really want and need.

As an EMDR therapist:

I know the pain and hurt you feel when the trigger you just experienced has a familiar feeling of the past.  It’s all connected.  I’m trained to help you sort through and reprocess those painful memories utilizing EMDR therapy so you can finally get distance from the past.

What Others Say...

Kim is the kind of therapist that embodies a skilled balance of structure and emotional work in sessions.  In her couples work, especially as an EFT therapist, she offers a path for clients to come together and have difficult conversations while remaining productive.  Kim’s attention to detail and ability to listen with compassion is a gift.  Kim’s clients have space to explore their emotions and deep levels of affect, while she uses her clinical tools to support the conversation in a calm manner. One of her greatest strengths is her sincere and mindful presence.  Kim shows up to every session with a willingness to pick up the hard work and stand with her clients.
